DIY cropped top with back details

Just a few days ago, I needed to sort out my closet for clothes that I could do without. While doing so, I found a statement shirt that was given during the first TAYO youth camp. I like statement shirts and this was no exception, but it was just too big for me. Thus, a DIY project!

Tip: Begin with the end in mind (from 7 habits of highly effective people)
 #LookbookAngPeg HAHAHAHAHA
1. Get a shirt that you want to crop

2. Cut to your desired length and look. Make sure that you are completely positive about the resulting look before cutting the shirt. I recommend having a half-inch allowance for edging.

Cut the left sleeve
Cut the right sleeve by using the left sleeve's cut pattern

Cut the bottom part of the shirt
3. Sew the edges. This part took me around 2 hours to finish because I chose to use overcasting stitch instead of running stitch. I felt like the diligent kid in Home economics class. HAHAHAHA Times like this I want a real sewing machine and a teacher.

Voila! a cropped top
Optional: If you want to add some back details, then continue reading.

4. Fold the back part of the shirt into two, and cut short horizontal lines in the center.

It will look like this when you spread out the shirt

It will look like this when you open out the cuts

5. I initially thought that it already looked good like that, but I felt that it was unfinished so I inserted a lasso through the cuts.

Tadaa! back details to your cropped top

Now where's my leather jacket and jaguar motorcycle!
If you noticed, I changed the lasso from a colorful one to a black one because I felt that the black one look more badass, but hey do you what you want, that's badass too. HAHAHAHA

P.S.
I suddenly miss my Highschool days when I used to do DIY crafts every single day because (1) it was required, (2) it was an essential part of cosplaying. I think this is my first DIY project in 4 years. Oh boy, I miss Highschool.

    2. Thank you, dear. Haha! As much as I'd love to, I guess I'll have to pass. My husband might just laugh at me. :D I used to wear cropped tops and those with cut out details when I was in my very early 20s (like you). Things were much more fun then. :-p

Anyhoo, I read the formspring message you left. I enabled the comments na. ^_^Cheers!
