Save Angkas Story - Challenges Faced and LTFRB rulings

#angkaserye Im all for competition, it makes the grass greener mostly, but the cap is counterproductive at this point when there are no alternatives yet and the demand is at peak. Angkas has taken almost 4 yrs to learn how to manage big fleets starting to few hundred drivers and growing to 27k after almost 4 yrs - from having few driver and customer support to partnering with 3rd parties for insurance, hospital assistance, emergency response, etc. The 17k being removed from angkas platform are veterans with 99.997% safety record, being replaced by new entrants without prior record! How will the new entrants fill in their 10k share of drivers in such short period of time without doing it haphazardly - that is doing the background checks, training, and driving tests? Angkas took at least 1 yr to get to 10k fleet and manage it to how it is now. #oneangkas #saveangkas

How to Deal with Negative Criticism

Criticism means both positive and negative, but for this video, I'll focus on how to deal with negative criticism as a tool for self development, while protecting one's well being at the same time. There are 3 stages we need to prepare to do this - attitude towards criticism, analysis of criticism, and response to criticism.

Bike Ride - Manila to Padre Pio Bulacan

Bike Ride from BGC Metro Manila to Lourdes Grotto and Padre Pio Mountain of Healing Bulacan

Going back, we proceeded with Paradise Road rather than go back to Skyline Road. Turned out to be risky at night because it was off road, no lights, and is a dedicated road for dump trucks.

ERRATUM: San jose del monte bulacan, not san juan del monte. Sorryyy naaaa sabaw talaga si tita nyo arlet  😂😂😂

Office Halloween Party & Scariest Lines You Hear at Work

Angkas Halloween Party 2019
featuring Scariest Lines na Narinig ng Team sa Office

Was an insightful Halloween as I asked my team the scariest lines they have heard at work (safe to assume mostly coming from me or their leads who have mirrored some of my ways) - Jump to 2:10 minutes on the vlog for this - watch in HD :)

For myself, it scares me when people tell me "kaya mo yan." (you can do it) When I'm given a new project, or transferred to a new city, or asked to handle problematic situations, or hit new targets, or deal with certain people, and everyone tells me, "kaya mo yan," I get scared. I feel intense mental pressure as if I'm not allowed to fail. This is why my answers are only yes or no. Either I'll do it or not, there is no try.

But someone told me, "to try only, do not feel like you have to do something well, but you only have to try it."

Biked from Makati to Tarlac Goshen Resort - My First Long Ride!

I biked from Makati to Tarlac (Goshen Resort). Grabe. My hands and pelvis were hurting after around 60km. My willpower started to drain at 70km. Then my back and legs started to hurt at around 80km. Long rides do not test one's physical endurance only, but more so mental endurance.

*Video has English subtitle option

I tried not to use the battery of the ebike, but by around 70km, I couldn't keep up with the group's pace anymore so I had to turn it on to not delay the group. My pack was heavy so rather than giving me a speed push, the ebike just helped me carry the added weight i was carrying - around 7kg (2kg for battery, 2kg for water, 1kg for ulock, 2kg for other tools / food / clothes)

The road to Tarlac is flat and supposedly easy, but it was tiring especially because we all did not have enough sleep prior the ride. This is my first 100+ km ride (one way.) My longest ride before this was only around 40km (one way.) It was really a new experience for me.

For now I want to do maybe around 50-60km ride only (one way) to practice, before I do a hundred km again.

Some learning from my first long ride
- Buy higher lumens and battery capacity beam light - better if can be both usb and battery enabled so can last longer (at least 6hrs) - or buy spare beam light
- Buy saddle gel to make the saddle more comfortable
- Check saddle set up. I had pelvis pain during and after the ride :(
- Check handlebar / brake set up - After maybe 50km, I had hand and backpain also.

Thank you Trinx Bikerhood Philippines for letting me do my first long ride with you guys!!! I could not have done it without your support and assistance! Woohooo!!

Wawa Dam Bike Ride | Trinx Bikerhood Philippines

Wawa Dam Bike Ride with Trinx Bikerhood Philippines - I used Trinx X1 ebike without the battery. Interestingly, everyone thought I converted the bike myself, and they were surprised when I said this is stock model of Trinx.

The ride from Makati to Wawa Dam is mostly flat ground, with few quick gradual uphill and downhill - about 30-40km depending on where you are coming from.  I think newbies can do the ride as long as they are not alone. Well I don't suggest newbies doing solo rides anyway - at least for a newbie like myself (who panics and worries easily, lelz)

Finally, I am able to bike again! And not just to go to office, but for leisure!

Thanks Trinx Brotherhood Philippines for adopting me!

Spot Fake News: When to Question What You Hear (10 Workplace Fallacies)

Dont be misled easily. Learn the faulty reasoning tactics people use (intentionally or unintentionally) to justify their thoughts and actions.

These are called fallacies in philosophy, and it is all around us. We don't really have to correct them or call out their attention on this if they are not people we care about, but we need to be cognizant if they are using fallacies and not logic in their reasoning. We have to be vigilant not to fall prey to illogical claims.

Here are top 10 fallacies I encounter in the office daily:

1. Bandwagon effect - You think you're correct just because other people are doing what you're doing
Example: Popoy and Basha already resigned. Maybe it's about time, I do too.

2. Appeal to Authority - You think youre correct just because you are an authority figure or someone who's an authority said what you did.
Example - My suggestion is correct because I'm the boss

3. Red Herring - You justify yourself by diverting the topic to something else.
Example - The product of this supplier is okay, because the owner is nice (even if the quality of the product does not have anything to do with the niceness of the owner)

4. Appeal to Tradition - You justify what you do because it has always been the way how things are done - even if it's outdated or no longer the best practice today.
Example - This is how we should do it, bec this is how it has always been done in the past.

5. Appeal to Emotion - You justify yourself by trying to win the emotions of the audience
Example - Yeah I did wrong, but I only did it for you.

6. Appeal to Hypocrisy - You justify what you did by trying to implicate the person you're talking to for doing the same thing
Example - Why is smoking bad for me, when you smoke too?

7. Cherrypicking
8. Appeal to Ignorance
9. Hasty Generalization
10. Slothful Induction

Please watch the video for more examples and details :)

Do You Make a Catastrophe Over Everything?

Catastrophizing is expecting the worst to happen when faced with a problem. It is an irrational thought wherein you make a catastrophe out of the current or future situation. Here I discuss why we do it and what we can do to address it. Oftentimes expecting the worst does not prepare you for the worst. Expecting the worst thing to happen, invites the worst to happen.

I forgot to include in the video. Another reason we engage in catastrophizing is because we think it motivates us. We use fear of the worst to motivate us, but this is actually not a sustainable form of motivation, and is counterproductive and can make us demotivated if we believe that the worst is bound to happen anyway - so why bother.

Cost Benefit Analysis for Office Workers & Project Managers

Niyaya ka ni crush manood ng sine, pero ikaw taya. Worth it ba?

--

Cost benefit analysis (CBA) is important for businesses and managers to do before pushing thru with any projects. CBA is analyzing if the benefits from the project are worth its costs, and then deciding what to do next based on the result of the analysis

Do You Think in Black & White? And How it's Ruining Your Relationships

Black and white ka ba magisip? Yung tipong pang pinoy telenovelas na laging sobrang sama ng kontrabida, tapos sobrang bait nung bida? Or kapag may comment kang narinig sa pulitika, reply mo agad is either DDS or Dilawan yung kausap mo. Yung hirap kang tanggapin na Pinoy ako pero ayoko ng adobo. Char lang 🤣🤣🤣

Seriously though, black and white thinking damages our way of thinking, and ruins our relationship with other people, here's how to address it.
Black and white thinking or splitting in psychology is thinking in extremes and labeling the problem, person, or situation as either terrible or perfect, good or evil, etc.

Highlighted here are (1) Negative Effects of Black and White Thinking, (2) Why We Engage in Black & White Thinking, and (3) How to Challenge our Black and White Thought Patterns

How I Deal with Stress (Self Care Tips)

Experiencing stress varies per person, hence the first aid for stress varies per person too. We call this first aid to stress as self care. Every adult should have a self care plan or self care routine for himself or herself to avoid mental breakdown.

Here is my self care routine and also my guide in assessing my lifestyle so I could put in little improvements.

Biking to Work in Metro Manila

I used to ride Grab or Angkas to work, but it was expensive, while riding jeepneys or MRT was too exhausting and time consuming.

I had an officemate who bikes to work from Rizal to Makati (~20km) so I was amazed and thought, oh maybe I can do it too since I live a lot nearer to the office. But problem was I didn't know how to ride a bike. It was embarrassing for me as an adult to be learning how to ride a bike for the first time but I tried and practiced anyway.

And now I've been biking to work for almost 1 year :) Here's how I did it, and some tips for safe bike commuting in Metro Manila. See you on the road!

All or Nothing

Have you longed gravely for something so abstract, it drives you restless? Maybe a person, a sense of purpose or meaning? But you think it's frivolous, so you forget it and get on with life.

Then one day, the nagging voice whispers. At first, it tiptoes not wanting to disturb your carefully crafted life. Then all at once, it goes into a stampede, asking you to throw everything away, all or nothing, my way or no way, and creating chaos inside your head, twisting your stomach into knots.

Perhaps it's true, when we find ourselves wanting everything, we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.

----

So many years have passed.

I loved the corporate world.
I quit the corporate world due to quarterlife crisis
I returned to the corporate world.
I solo traveled and learned from it.
I almost gave up hiking.
I had my heart broken.

I still don't know what I want,
But I am willing to give whatever I may like a shot,
Even if it turns out to be a mistake.

I won't settle down for the sake of keeping up.
I'll keep searching for what excites and inspires me.
I'll keep trying and quitting, trying and quitting, trying and quitting,
Until I find something that I do not want to quit on.

I will be okay going back to zero and staying there,
If the ten I got does not make me happy after all.

I don't have assurance of success,
Only conviction that what I want could exist,
Only if I dared to find it.

---

Happy new year everyone! Cheers to those who dare! Cheers to those who don't! And cheers to our family and friends who will take us in no matter how many times they told us so 😂
